Number 19 of 2002 concerning Copyright

BY THE GRACE OF GOD ALMIGHTY

President of the Republic of Indonesia

Weigh:

a. that Indonesia is a country that has ethnic/ethnic diversity and culture as well as wealth in the arts and literature with its developments that require copyright protection against intellectual property born from that diversity;

b. that Indonesia has become a member of various international conventions/agreements in the field of intellectual property rights in general and copyright in particular who require further embodiment in its national legal system;

c. that developments in the fields of trade, industry, and investment have been so rapid that they require an increase in protection for the creator and owner of rights related to still paying attention to the interests of the wider community;

d. that by paying attention to the experience in implementing the existing copyright law, it is deemed necessary to establish a new copyright law to replace Law Number 6 of 1982 concerning Copyright as amended by Law Number 7 of 1987 and finally amended by Law Number 12 of 1997;

e. that based on the considerations as stated in letters a, letter b, letter c, and letter d, laws on copyright are needed.

1. Article 5 paragraph (1), Article 20 paragraph (1), Article 28 C paragraph (1), and Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia;

2. Law Number 7 of 1994 concerning Ratification of the Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization (Formation of World Trade Organizations), (State Gazette of 1994 Number 57, Supplement to State Gazette Number 3564).
